18,842 fans watched an exciting game at Exhibition Stadium. The Detroit Tigers topped the Toronto Blue Jays by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2. The score was tied at 2 after nine. Detroit ended up winning it in the 10th inning. Jason Thompson hit a bases-empty home run (his 1st of the season). Two outs later Aurelio Rodriguez stepped in and he doubled. Detroit took care of Toronto with no trouble in the bottom of the 10th.
The win went to John Hiller(1-1) who allowed no runs in 2 and 1/3 innings. Mike Willis(0-1) was charged with the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 hitsand no walks in 2 innings.
