Toronto Blue Jays broke the deadlock in their last at bats, pulling out a 3 to 2 win over the Detroit Tigers and sending their hometown fans homesmiling. The game was decided in the 9th inning. Alan Ashby laced a one-base hit. Pedro Garcia followed and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. After another out, Doug Ault came to the plate and stroked a single giving Toronto the victoryas 18,353 happy fans celebrated wildly. Toronto had a total of 9 hits forthe game.
Jerry Johnson(1-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing1 run. Dave Rozema(0-1) was hit with the loss. He surrendered 9 hits and 3walks in 8 and 2/3 innings.
