1977 - July 9, TORONTO 0 @ CLEVELAND 9

Wayne Garland delivered 9 solid innings and designated hitter Rico Carty cleared three ducks from a very crowded pond with a grand slam as the Cleveland Indians defeated the woeful Toronto Blue Jays 9 to 0 at Municipal Stadium.

It was a good day for Cleveland thanks to Carty. He launched a Grand Slam homerun in the 5th inning and stroked a one-base hit plating a run in the 8th inning. Cleveland managed 13 hits in their victory.

Garland(11-6) was credited with the shutout. Jerry Garvin(8-6) was hit with the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 8 hits and 3 walks in 4 innings.

Roy Hartsfield lamented, 'Garland was really aggressive today. He kept coming after our hitters. Heck, why not. he kept sitting our guys down one after another - like so many bowling pins!'
