Jerry Garvin hurled a 3 hitter at Yankee Stadium as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the New York Yankees 2 to 1.
Garvin(2-0) gave Toronto a solid outing. He allowed only 3 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 1.84 to 1.52. Neither team managed to score after the 4th inning.
The losing pitcher was Gil Patterson(0-1). He allowed 2 runs and 8 hits in 9 innings. 'Garvin took our guys to school' Billy Martin said. 'Too bad he doesn't pitch for us - it would make my job a whole lot easier!'
