Designated hitter Larvell Blanks had 2 base hits and 4 RBI at Exhibition Stadium as the Cleveland Indians beat the floundering Toronto Blue Jays by the count of 9 to 8.
Cleveland took the lead off Jeff Byrd in the first inning scoring 3 runs on 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Paul Dade got things rolling when he drew a walk. Dade took his lead and swiped second. Jim Norris then drew a walk. Andre Thornton followed and he doubled. Buddy Bell came to the plate and doubled. Despite losing, Toronto out-hit Cleveland 16 to 9.
Al Fitzmorris(1-6) was the winner allowing 3 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings. JimKern was credited with his 5th save. Byrd(0-1) was given the loss.
Cleveland now has a record of 27-33. Toronto can't seem to snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now they have a miserable 2-8 record over the last couple weeks.
