Otto Velez slammed a homerun and had 4 RBI as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees 12 to 8 at Exhibition Stadium.
Jerry Johnson(4-3) did the job in relief, and he got credit for the win. He went 3 innings allowing 2 hits and 2 walks and mowed down 5 New York batters seeing his ERA drop from 5.30 to 4.91.
Toronto banged out 14 hits on the night.
Sparky Lyle(3-5) ended up with the loss in relief. Toronto scored big getting 6 runs off him in 5 innings.
