Mark Fidrych pitched a complete game as the Detroit Tigers beat the lifeless Toronto Blue Jays in 10 innings by a score of 2 to 1. The score was tied at 1 after nine. Finally, Detroit pulled the game out in the 10th inning. Ben Oglivie drew a walk. Phil Mankowski followed and he drew a walk. Tom Veryzer then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Bruce Kimm followed and he lined a single giving Detroit the win much to the delight of the home town crowd. Although they lost, Toronto did out-hit Detroit 8 to 5.
The victory went to Fidrych(4-6) who went the distance allowing 1 run. Jesse Jefferson(3-9) was the loser. He pitched 9 innings giving up only 4 hits and 3 walks.
