George Brett had 4 hits and 3 RBI and Paul Splittorff completed the game without help from the bullpen as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Toronto Blue Jays by a score of 8 to 1 at Royals stadium.
Brett was a one-man wrecking crew. He tripled in the 1st inning, ripped a solo home run (his 2nd of the season) in the 3rd inning, tripled knocking in a run in the 4th inning and tripled scoring a run in the 6th inning. KansasCity finished with 12 hits in the victory.
Splittorff(4-1) was the winner allowing 1 run for the game. Jerry Garvin(2-2)was the losing pitcher. Kansas City scored big getting 8 runs off him in 5 and 1/3 innings.
With this win, Kansas City has a division leading 14-5 record. They have been 7-3 lately. Not able to get much going in recent weeks, Toronto is 2-8 of late and now has an overall record of 6-15, worst in the division.
