Nolan Ryan struck out 11 batters and Bobby Grich ripped 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the California Angels man-handled the Toronto Blue Jays - the final score was 17 to 2.
Grich had a big day at the plate. He smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 5th inning and blasted a two-run home run (his 5th of the season) in the 9th inning. California kept the score keepers busy in the 8th inning with 5 runs on 4 hits. California had many opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6 separate innings.
Ryan(7-5) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. DaveLemanczyk(2-5) was the loser. He was touched for 11 hits and 3 walks in 4 innings.
Ryan was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange -but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'
