Chet Lemon had 3 base hits at Exhibition Stadium as the Chicago White Sox beat the league door-mat Toronto Blue Jays 7 to 6.
The game was decided in the 9th inning. Lamar Johnson drew a walk. Lemon stepped up next and he lined a one-base hit. One out later, Jim Spencer came to the plate and hit a deep fly. Toronto scored in 5 different innings, but their shaky pitching kept them from victory.
The victory was credited to Jack Kucek(3-0) who went 1 and 2/3 innings, allowing 2 runs. Kucek got help from Lerrin Lagrow who earned his 18th save. Pete Vuckovich(2-11) took the loss in relief.
